Christian Hümmeler appointed acting editor-in-chief of Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger

The 55-year-old succeeds Carsten Fiedler, who is moving to Burda Forward as Editor-in-Chief.

Cologne, October 25, 2023 – Christian Hümmeler will join the editorial team of the Cologne daily newspaper as deputy editor-in-chief and will also take over as acting editor-in-chief from November 1, 2023. He succeeds Carsten Fiedler, who announced in the summer that he was leaving the company at his own request.

“Christian Hümmeler stands for great continuity and a seamless transition at the top of the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger. With his passionate commitment and in-depth experience, he has been committed to the consistent further development of Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger as a member of the editorial team for many years and is making a significant contribution to the digital transformation of our products,” said publishers Isabella Neven DuMont and Christian DuMont Schütte.

Christian Hümmeler has been a member of the editorial team of the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger since 2017. Most recently, he was Managing Editor in the Editor-in-Chief’s office since April 2022, before which he headed the Cologne local editorial team for ten years. The editorial management team continues to include Sarah Brasack and Martin Dowideit as Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Editor-in-Chief.

“Christian Hümmeler has proven that he can lead and drive the editorial team even in challenging times,” says Thomas Schultz-Homberg, CEO of Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger Medien. “He brings intensive knowledge of the print product as well as a great understanding of new and further development of digital products. I look forward to working closely with him.”

Christian Hümmeler is looking forward to the challenge: “With a strong team on the editorial board, we will continue to develop the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger on all channels with great passion and expertise, even in these challenging times. Our journalistic ambition must be to further expand the role of the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger as the leading medium in the region.”
